Gijón keeps its Roman past alive through the actions taken in the Campa de Torres Archaeological Site, one of the main fortified settlements of the north of Spain before 490 B.C., and especially in the restored baths complex at Campo Valdés, a public building which dates from the end of the 1st century A.D.

Located on the old Laboral University of Gijon, it is a creative community with more than 4.000 students and researchers. The building was created in the mid XX century to offer worker’s children vocational training. LABoral Art Center and Industrial Creation is a place where you can enjoy art, design and industry. It has also a theatre which offers modern spectacles.

Santa Catalina Highlands

Santa Catalina highlands, an old military setting, has an auditorium, cafeteria and playground equipment. On the top you can enjoy a great view of the seaside. On the east you can see San Lorenzo beach with the mouth of Piles River and La Providencia Mount. On the west you can see the harbor, Poniente beach, the aquarium and the thalassic center. Here, you can also find one of the most important monuments in Gijon, an Eduardo Chillida’s Sculpture called "Elogio del Horizonte".
